Medi opened in May 2006 in a Grade ll listed building in the old market town of Dolgellau, at the foot of the second highest mountain in Wales, Cader Idris. The owner, Nia Medi, was a TV and theatre actor for more than 30 years before turning to house design and presenting the BBC makeover programme ‘Real Rooms’.
Medi was the first shop to specialise in ‘design-led’ gifts made in Wales. From the outset Nia has encouraged, supported and promoted new Welsh designers and craftspeople who have since gone from strength to strength.
Nia’s experience of transforming homes and furniture led in turn to Medi becoming an official stockist of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™. Her striking and colourful furniture transformations are now to be found all over the UK and abroad.
